Glendale is located in Los Angeles County, about seven miles from downtown Los Angeles. Just east of Interstate 5 and south of California State Highway 134.

Glendale's neighboring cities include Pasadena to the east, Burbank to the north & northeast, Griffith Park & Hollywood to the west and East Los Angeles to the south.

Glendale is the third most-populous city in Los Angeles County. The state of California counted 73,774 in the year 2000. during the 1990s, Glendale's population increased by 24,000 people.

First class shopping is available to homeowners at the Glendale Galleria   with major retail outlets such as Nordstrom and Macys.

Glendale Housing

Glendale's  hills, mesas and ravines make for a large percentage of view home sites which enhance the attractiveness of the city. Home construction in the hills north of downtown Los Angeles started just before World War II. Housing styles in Glendale reflect the pre-World War II era many with four or five bedrooms, all tastefully landscaped, reflecting a blend of neighborhood trends and each homeowner's personal style preference, with fully grown trees lining the streets of the well established neighborhoods comprising the Glendale community.

In the 1990s, Glendale increased it's housing stock by 1,660 units, mostly with apartment and condominium complexes, but new homes are also available in limited numbers.

many of them two story, stucco sides and red-tile roofs. Above Foothill Boulevard, on north side, many homes were constructed between 1950 and 1970. Generally they run to three and four bedrooms. At top, Skyview Estates, a cluster of new homes. Glendale also has its older homes, from 19th century and early 1900s. For middle-class housing, drive Verdugo Road at the base of the Verdugo Mountains. Most of the apartments can be found in the downtown, south of the Ventura Freeway.

The total number of housing units is approximately 75,000, including:  26,065 single family homes, 3,449 single family attached homes, 44,228 multiple family residences and 32 mobile homes.

Glendale Transportation

Three freeways traverse the city of Glendale, interstate 5, interstate 210 and California Route 134.

Many Glendale homeowners also choose to commute by rail or bus services operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Metrolink offers Glendale homeowners a commuter rail alternative to driving L.A.'s freeway system.
